Emma Harman
As a psychotherapist, I have developed an integrative and client-centred approach to counselling due to my passion for assisting clients in gaining insights into their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and helping them recognize the patterns that are holding them back. One of my goals is to create a safe and welcoming environment for my clients and I value the importance of a collaborative therapeutic relationship to ensure my clients feel heard and understood.
My way of doing therapy is a combination of cognitive behavioural, emotion-focused and insight-oriented approaches. I view therapy from a systemic and trauma informed lens and I work with my clients to assist them in developing their goals for therapy and thereby tailor my approach to meet their needs.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and graduated from McGill University with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Guelph. Before becoming a part of The Mental Game Clinic, I gained valuable experience providing individual and couples counselling in private practice in the Toronto area.
My training included completing internships at the McGill Counselling and Psychoeducational Clinic and at the Argyle Institute in Montreal, Quebec where I worked with individuals with anxiety, depression, school and relationship issues and provided psychotherapy to individuals and couples with a wide range of mental health issues. Additionally, I completed post-graduate training through the University of Guelph in Sex and Couples Therapy.
Performance Interests: I enjoy pilates and spin classes and they help so much with my mental health as well as play volleyball recreationally. A fun fact about me is that I was also a competitive horseback rider when I was younger!
